The Last Kampong in Singapore

En route back to Sengkang Riverside Park, we stopped briefly at one of the houses belonging to a friendly Malay family, who allow us to roam around the compound & take a look at their mini oasis.

We were immediately surrounded by a sense of laid back tranquility the moment we stepped into the cool & shady compound. It is really amazing that a kampong is still in existence in Singapore. For a while I feel like I'm in Malaysia, where we still can see many kampongs.

One can see many personal touches by the owner to decorate their own haven.

The round mound used to be a well which has been filled.

Worlds apart: Just across the canal is a row of modern day landed properties.
