Tiong Bahru Bakery

Tiong Bahru Bakery
by Gontran Cherrier

Address: 56 Eng Hoon Street #01-70 Singapore 160056
(Open daily 8am to 8pm, closed on Tuesday)

I guess this place needs no further introduction because it has been featured in almost every food blogs. So jump right in and feast your eyes on all the yummy baked goods.

Here are some of the must-try that were mentioned & featured in almost every blogs.
This is Round One so one item is missing - The Squid Ink Sandwich.

Chocolate Brioche (S$3.00)
Soft & fluffy. Even my Cordon Bleu trained sis says it's good & wonder how it can be so soft, so it can't be wrong.

Croissant (S$2.50)
Crispy yet soft & buttery inside. The turnover is so high you can be assured that it is still slightly warm when served. There are fruit jam & butter at the service area if you prefer additional flavourings, but I prefer the original.
This is definitely way better than Maison Kayser at Scotts Square which is also known for its croissant. But I was pretty disappointed with the cold & soul-less croissant that I had.

Salmon Bun (S$8.50)

Chocolate Mendiant (S$6.50)

Kouign Aman (S$3.50)
This is my absolute favorite which I would recommend everyone to try. This is like a sweeter, more crispy version of the fabulous croissant. Utterly yummylicious!
Oh, forget about using cutlery which will crush the crispy skin, bite right into it to enjoy the crunch.

Order number for our drinks.

Magic (S$6.50)
I'm not kidding, this coffee is called Magic. A more concentrated Piccolo with an inverse proportion of coffee & milk i.e. two-third coffee, one-third milk
We also had Piccolo, Ice Latte & Mocha. This is the best companion for all the sweet & savoury food we were having.
If you have enjoyed the coffee at Forty Hands then you can be assured that Tiong Bahru Bakery serves the same great coffee too because they are after all under the same group.

Squid Ink Sandwich (S$8.50)
This must be one of the most legendary item on the menu which has piqued the interest of many with its black bun.
We bought this after we have finished the first round of food because it wasn't ready when we placed ou order earlier on at around 11am. This was only available at around 11.30am, so if you want to try this, don't go too early.
The bun is soft and the taste isn't really fishy per se but the taste is different from the normal bread.

S$8.50
No name for this item.
Layers of mousse with a crispy base & macaroons.
